Parliament’s Sanitation Committee Urges YEA to Maintain Zoomlion Contract
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources has called on the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to reconsider any plans to terminate the contract with waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

that ending the partnership could result in significant job losses among workers engaged through the Sanitation Module under the YEA program. The committee emphasized the importance of maintaining existing contracts to protect livelihoods, especially at a time when unemployment remains a national issue.
Committee Chairperson, Mr. Nelson Kyeremeh, stated that Zoomlion’s work in waste management and sanitation services plays a vital role in promoting environmental cleanliness while offering thousands of youth employment opportunities across the country.
Speaking after a stakeholder engagement, the Committee stressed that cancelling the contract could worsen sanitation challenges and strain public health efforts. Instead, they urged for a collaborative review process to resolve any concerns without harming workers' welfare.
The Youth Employment Agency had earlier hinted at reassessing its relationship with Zoomlion, but Parliament’s sanitation committee strongly believes that restructuring, rather than termination, is the best path forward.
As discussions continue, many stakeholders are hopeful that a solution will be found to sustain the sanitation workforce and advance Ghana’s environmental goals.
